About Sal Maglie Stadium
Historic Sal Maglie Stadium is located in Hyde Park in the heart of Niagara Falls, N.Y. It primarily hosts high school and collegiate baseball teams, including the Niagara Purple Eagles, Niagara Catholic Patriots and Niagara Power (NYCBL). It will host the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball tournament in May 2017.
Owned by the City of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and managed by Niagara International Sports & Entertainment (NISE), the ballpark opened in 1939 and has a capacity of 4,000. It was originally designed for football and was named Hyde Park Stadium. It was adapted for baseball in the 1950s and rebuilt as a baseball facility in 1999.
In 1983, the stadium was renamed for former Major League Baseball player Sal Maglie, who also played for Niagara University.
Professional teams calling it home over the years included the Buffalo Bisons (1967-68) of the International League; the Niagara Falls Pirates (1970-79), later called Niagara Falls Sox (1982-85), Tigers (1989) and Rapids (1989-93) of the New York–Penn League; and Mallards (1995), of the North Atlantic League.
